Deep Cleaning on Linnaean Street, Cambridge — Kitchen Sink Restoration in Agassiz
Linnaean Street sits in the Agassiz neighborhood of Cambridge, between Harvard Square and Porter Square, close to the Cooper-Frost-Austin House — one of the oldest surviving timber-frame homes in the United States. It’s a quiet, tree-lined residential street in one of Cambridge’s more established neighborhoods, popular with faculty, long-term residents, and families who have put down roots close to the university.
This job came to us through a client who had been in the apartment for several years and had kept up with regular cleaning throughout — but the kitchen sink had reached a point where standard cleaning products and effort simply weren’t making a difference anymore. They booked a deep clean specifically to address it.

What We Found
The double sink had significant mineral deposit buildup across the entire basin — years of hard water accumulation had left heavy limescale and rust staining around the drain, along the sides, and across the surrounding countertop. The faucet fixtures had substantial calcium buildup around the base where water had pooled and dried repeatedly over time. The discoloration was extensive enough that the original white finish of the basin was barely visible in places.
This is a pattern we see regularly in older Cambridge apartments. The water in the Greater Boston area is moderately hard, and in buildings where the plumbing hasn’t been updated in decades, mineral deposits accumulate faster than in newer construction. A standard cleaning visit won’t shift this kind of buildup — it requires the right descaling products, time, and technique.
What We Did
Our team applied a professional descaling treatment to the entire sink basin, faucet fixtures, and surrounding countertop surface. The treatment was left to work on the mineral deposits before scrubbing — this is the step that standard cleaning skips, and it’s the reason the result looks as different as it does. After the treatment, we scrubbed the full basin, worked around the drain and plug fittings, treated the grout line where the sink meets the countertop, and cleaned and polished the faucet fixtures. The surrounding countertop was fully sanitized and wiped down.
The Result
The basin was restored to its original white finish. The faucet fixtures were clean and free of calcium buildup. The countertop was clear. The before-and-after contrast on this job was one of the most striking we’ve seen on a Cambridge kitchen clean — what looked like a permanently stained sink was fully restored in a single visit.
The client booked a recurring house clean after this job. That’s a pattern we see often — a deep clean resets the space to a standard that’s worth maintaining.
